"About the Educator"

Hi! My name is Ms. Melanie Dawkins, and I was born and raised right here in Polk County, Florida. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Fine Arts with a minor in Art History from the University of Central Florida (Class of 2023).

​My journey into art education began with unique, hands-on creative roles. I spent my college years bringing joy and creativity to children while working at the Crayola Experience—where I managed the wax hand mold station and guided kids through the 3D casting process—and as a professional Caricature Artist at Legoland Florida in Winter Haven. These experiences taught me how to connect with young artists instantly, implement safety protocols with specialized studio materials, and make the creative process engaging and accessible.

​Moving into the classroom as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional throughout the 2025-2026 school year solidified my passion for teaching. I discovered that integrating my creative background allows me to help students explore their unique imaginations. I am dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive studio environment where children feel completely free to express themselves, build their skills, and thrive through visual arts.
